KNITWEAR CARE GUIDE

To ensure you take the best possible care of your knitwear pieces, it helps to get familiar with the full care process, which includes washing, drying, storing, de-pilling, and repairing if needed. It's easier than it sounds, and if done regularly, it helps to keep your knitwear soft and wearable forever.

STORING

Best way to store your knitwear is to fold and keep it flat as this will help to keep its shape. Always store clean garments in cool, dry places. Sweat, hair, and stains attract moths. Store your wool and cashmere garments in a drawer or storage box with cedar balls or lavender sachets; those are your best protection against moths as they don’t like the smell. Remember to replace these products each season as the smell fades.

WASHING

We recommend to hand wash or professionally dry clean all of your merino wool and cashmere garments, due to the fine nature of the fibre. Always follow the care label for washing instructions. Turn your garments inside out and hand wash using warm water (no more than 40 degrees) and a delicate detergent. Soak for five minutes to help loosen the dirt before gently squeezing and rinsing, first with warm water and then finishing with cold water. Treat stains with liquid detergent, never rub as this will encourage pilling. Fabric softener can be used if you wish. Never bleach as this will break down the fibres.

Alternatively, dry clean sparingly - once a season is usually enough. Excessive dry cleaning can give a glazed appearance, and over exposure to chemicals can degrade the fibres over a prolonged period.

DRYING

Remove excess water by placing your garment between clean towels. Never wring your knitwear garments. Re-shape the garment whilst damp, taking special care, as wet knitwear fibres can stretch out of shape. Dry flat, away from sunlight or direct heat sources. Never tumble dry knitwear. Once dry, press lightly on the reverse side with a cool iron.

DE-PILLING

The fuzzy, little balls that form over time are a natural occurrence. Referred to as "pilling", they are not indicative of bad quality, it is an inevitable consequence of the delicate processing of fine fibres. To de-pill your knitwear piece, use a razor, electric de-bobbler, or cashmere comb. By removing the pills in this way, as opposed to pulling them off, your knitwear will soften even more.

REPAIRING

Whether it has occurred due to a moth or a snag, holes in wool and cashmere garments can be repaired. If the hole was created by a moth infestation, make sure you freeze the piece first before sending it out for repair. We have a number of trusted knitwear repair shops around the country. They’ll return your wool and cashmere pieces as good as new. Please email our Customer Care Team for a recommendation if you'd like to have your knitwear piece repaired.
